My line work on my avatar was not dark enough to see well when I reduced the size of the avatar to the viewing size. I had done the line work in Photoshop. This video shows how I found a way to thicken the lines and thus made them to appear darker when the image was small without redrawing the lines. This tip saved a lot of time.

This pen and ink drawing is one of the Character Designs I’m creating for a new project I’m involved in.
My job in this project is a little different than my last one (The Adventures of Harry and Larry). I’m to create 40 “Coloring Pages” to help illustrate leadership skills for elementary school children. The name of the project is called “Bus 34–Leadership Academy.” As you can tell by the title, it is for School Bus Drivers to help their student learn what leadership means and how to practice it in their daily lives.
Just finished working all day on a new Avatar.
I had a lot of fun working this out in Photoshop. Ready for a good evening of relaxing and watching Merlin on TV.
Today I wanted to do an art challenge. This morning I was watching Art ala Carte’s YouTube channel and she was doing a rendering of a realistic eye. While that sounded good to me so I thought I would try it. First thing is I didn’t want to look at my own eye and draw it, so I went on Google and searched for a photograph of a closeup of an eye.
I didn’t want to do it in watercolor so I decided that I would do it and colored pencils. Doing it with colored pencils made it a double challenge, not only had I never drawn an eye closeup, but I have hardly used my colored pencils. When I started I had great trepidation but I continued and was quite pleased with how it turned out. What you think? You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want too.
If you would like to see the video of my rendering of a realistic eye go to my YouTube channel Realistic Eye – Art Challenge
Starting off a new year always brings to mind what you intended to do last year and didn’t make as much progress as you wanted. So this year I would like to make more progress on my growth as an artist. To look at that big blank canvas or a glaring piece of white paper with courage to make that first mark and continue and see where each mark leads you — whether good or bad, I don’t think it matters. What matters is the doing.
Some of the different medias that I want to work on are:
- Oil/Acrylic painting
- Plein Air painting (when it gets warmer)
- Learn digital painting and animation
- Figure drawing and portraits
- My Journal (Below are some pages)
Yesterday I uploaded a video on YouTube about some of my artwork that I have done since I moved back to Taos in September. Below is a link to my YouTube video.

Here’s another activity page to download for the kids. They can find their way through the maze and meet Harry and Larry and their friend as they go, then color Harry and Larry at the Swimming Hole. If you have any ideas for Activity Pages please leave it in the comment section. I would greatly appreciate it.
I am starting a Children’s Activity Download Page.
You will be able to access all previous activities to download for free from the Menu under “Activity Download” at the top of the page.
So let’s begin:
Color Harry and Larry as they start their day.
I’ve been having lots of fun putting together the artwork and the story for the Kindle Edition. These two pages have Harry (Hippo) and Larry (Lizard) starting their adventures for the day.
